L4C 1.2 released and the future
It takes some time until version 1.2 hits the AppStore. This morning the liberating Release-Link appears. I wish you a lot of fun with the new map functions (like heading rotate, Bing Maps and faster scrolling) and the new bookmark function. With this it is possible to open Google Maps and other pages in this App.
If you created own links and want to share them, just mail them to me. I opened a FAQ Page with link examples.
What should I do in the next versions of Looking4Cache..? Add so many functions until you need a course to use this app? As the usage is already to complicated for some new users, I jam on the breaks. My focus in this winter will be three main topics:
- Vector Maps: In my current development build there is already a function to render maps out of local vector files. It is a special OSM based format with a style similar to Mapnik, but with some Geocaching related changes (like displaying trails in the woods with thick dashes). Because this special format is not easy to create I will add a download section where you get already created map files.
- Ease of operation: I will grinding some edges and corners that makes it complicated for new users. There will be a start dialog explaining the basics and help to enter the first user. There will be also text informations for some functions.
- Opencaching Network: The new OKAPI interface goes live in more and more countries. So in the next geocaching season you will be able to search and log these open-caches in this App.
If I notice that a lot of useres needs some other small functions, I will add them in the comming versions. For example I will create the possibility to search for caches on a specific address.
\o/ ist schon installiert. Nur zum Cachen werde ich wohl erst am Montag wieder kommen. Naja, bis dahin probiere halt so ein wenig.
Ach ja, MEINE Prioritäten für die nächste Version: 1. Vector Maps, 2. Vector Maps und 3. Vector Maps 🙂
Eine weitere wichtige Funktion wäre eine Livekarte.
Livekarte habe ich bereits auf dem Radar. Wird aber noch etwas dauern..
Oh ja, die Suche an einem anderen Ort vermisse ich sehr!!!

Herzlichen Glückwunsch zu dieser App. Es gibt nichts besseres momentan. Ein paar kleine Wünsche hätte ich allerdings schon. Vielleicht ist das eine oder andere ja schon in Arbeit 🙂
1. Zoombare Listingansicht, da manche Listings doch sehr große Bilder zeigen…
2. Korrigierte Koordinaten direkt in der App erstellen, ohne dass man erst auf die Geocaching.com Seite gehen muss.
3. Live Notizen in der Seitenleiste und nicht im Untermenü, und die Änderungen speichern auf Geocaching.com ( Geobucket macht das bereits) Ist sehr hilfreich, wenn man zu Hause die Caches weiterverarbeiten muss.
4. Bilder zu TB Logs hinzufügen
5. Wenn ein Cache aus der aktuellen Liste entfernt wird, springt der Kartenausschnitt zum Heimatort. Es wäre aber toll, wenn der Kartenausschnitt einfach in dem vorher gezeigtem Ausschnitt verharren würde, um mehrere Caches im gezeigten Ausschnitt nacheinander anwählen zu können, um sie beispielsweise aus der ‘Aktuell zu suchen’ Liste in die ‘Gefunden’ Liste zu übertragen.
6. Sync der DB zwischen iPhone und iPad (oder auch iCloud)
7. Hochformatansicht
Gibt bestimmt noch viel mehr, aber das waren jetzt die Sachen, die mir in den letzten 3 Monaten aufgefallen sind.
Wie gesagt, wenn man sich auf das Programm einlässt, gibt es nichts besseres auf Pad und Phone!

Hallo Thorsten, hab gerade die Diskussion in der Coming Updates Sektion gesehen…
Lösch das mal was ich eben geschrieben habe. Das hat hier gar nix zu suchen… Ich schreib das noch, mal neu an der richtigen Position. Einige Features sind dort eh schon geklärt…
